Autopsy attributes death of Mahsa Amini to brain disease

The Iranian authorities said this Friday that the death of Mahsa Amini was not caused by “blows”, but by the consequences of an illness, three weeks after the beginning of the demonstrations motivated by the death of the young woman during her detention.

Arrested on September 13 by the morality police in Tehran for breaking the strict code on the use of women’s clothing provided for in the laws of the Islamic Republic, in particular the use of the veil, this Iranian Kurd died three days later in hospital.

Several opposition activists said she was wounded in the head during her detention. The Iranian authorities denied any physical contact between the police and the young woman and said that they were awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

Her death sparked protests in the country, with Iranian women at the forefront, and solidarity actions in various regions of the world.
