European Union and NATO agree to issue new joint declaration

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg agreed yesterday that “the time has come” to issue a new joint statement by both entities to “progress in their association”

In a meeting held yesterday, the two leaders talked about the Russian aggression against Ukraine and about the increase in support for this country, in addition to the cooperation between Brussels and the Atlantic alliance, according to what they shared on their social networks.

“EU-NATO cooperation contributes to security and stability, so we believe that the time has come to agree on a new joint declaration to make progress in our association”, they both said on Twitter, without giving details on the content of the declaration.

Despite not indicating a date for signing the aforementioned declaration, the Czech Minister of Defense, Jan Jires, indicated today at a hearing in the European Parliament that the signing, one of the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council – could take place in Prague, on the 30th.
