Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday (20) vowed to continue his “sovereign” foreign policy and denounced the United States’ desire to seek “hegemony” ahead of the United Nations General Assembly, marked this year by Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine.
Putin sent his Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to New York, and no message from the Russian head of state is planned at this year’s General Assembly.

During the ceremony to accredit the new ambassadors in Moscow on Tuesday, Putin gave a speech that could have taken its place at the 77th edition of the Assembly: “Unfortunately, the development towards multipolarity meets resistance from those who strive to maintain a hegemonic role in world affairs and seek to control everything: Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.”

“It must be said clearly: those in a position of hegemony have been doing very well for a long time, but this cannot go on like this forever. That is impossible,” he added.
“We, Russia, will not deviate from our sovereign path. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, we intend to continue promoting a unifying international agenda and contribute to the solution of serious regional crises,” he added.
