The Ukrainian Armed Forces said they had made territorial gains in both the north, south and east, entering the lands invaded by Russia. In the area around Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, Kiev’s forces penetrated 50 kilometers beyond Russian lines and liberated more than 20 towns and villages, said Oleksiy Gromov of the Ukrainian General Staff.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to Kiev – the second time since the start of the Russian invasion – to discuss military aid with President Volodymyr Zelensky, having announced a further US$2.8 billion. The head of state expressed his gratitude for the “enormous support” of the United States that was helping to “return the territory and the lands” to the Ukrainians. Blinken, in a statement on the talks, hailed “the extraordinary frontline defenders of Ukraine” who “continue to fight courageously for the freedom of their country”.
The latest aid package includes $675 million soon to be sent in weapons, ammunition and another $1 billion in long-term loans and grants for Ukraine to buy more US equipment.
