NASA announces launch of new rocket on Saturday

“We agreed to move our launch date to Saturday, September 3rd,” said mission director Mike Sarafin, which is expected to mark the start of the US moon return program’s mission.

A weather official said he was “optimistic” about the weather on Saturday, although the likelihood of unfavorable conditions “is high”.

On Monday, NASA had admitted to launching the SLS on Friday if it managed to resolve the technical problems that led to its cancellation by Thursday, on the launch pad.

Mike Sarafin told a press conference that the launch would be possible on Friday – the second date previously admitted by NASA if the lift-off was aborted – as long as the technical problems were resolved at the launch pad within the next 48 to 72 hours.
