Signal 8 of storm is expected to be hoisted between late afternoon today and night

The Meteorological and Geophysical Services (SMG) considers “moderate to relatively high” the possibility of hoisting Tropical Storm Signal 8 between late afternoon today and tonight. Signal 3 was hoisted at 11:30 am. According to a press release, the tropical cyclone located in the central part of the South China Sea “continues to move towards the regions between the west coast of Guangdong and Hainan Island”.

“If the system adopts a path further north and closer to Macau or intensifies near the coast, this Directorate will issue tropical storm signal 8, according to atmospheric conditions”, it also reads.

As the tropical cyclone brings heavy rains, the weather in Macau is expected to be unstable in the coming hours, with the wind intensifying between today and tomorrow, reaching levels 6 or 7, “occasionally 8”, on the Beaufort scale. There may be “heavy showers and thunderstorms”.
