Brazilian police announced today that they have killed at least six armed men in Rio de Janeiro in response to an alleged shooting attack on an avenue in the northern part of the city, near the Manguinhos train station.
According to the G1 news portal, two suspected drug traffickers were arrested in the act. As detailed by the state authorities, civilian police officers from the Bomb Squad were shot while riding in a vehicle on their way to the Police City, an area where the Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro maintains buildings and specialized police stations.
After an emergency call from the agents, members of the Coordenadoria de Recursos Especiais (Core) attended the scene where an intense exchange of fire occurred with the assailants, recording the death of six suspects.
Due to the incident, urban trains of Rio de Janeiro’s suburban service operator, Supervia, were suspended, but then resumed running.
