UK PM quits as Conservative leader

“It is clear the will of the parliamentary conservative party that there must be a new leader of the party and therefore a new prime minister”, said this Thursday Boris Johnson, thus presenting the resignation of the post of head of government.

In a statement to the country, the (still) prime minister explained that he remained in office because he considered it his duty and obligation to British citizens. He added that the process to choose a successor as leader of the Conservative Party “must begin now”.

In Downing Street, Boris Johnson said he was “saddened” to leave “the best job in the world”.
