Russia and Ukraine have exchanged several prisoners of war with each other since the beginning of the Russian offensive against the neighboring country, most recently on June 29.
Russia said Tuesday it is investigating alleged torture inflicted on Russian soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces and now released in a prisoner exchange with Ukraine. “The Russian Investigative Committee is investigating the inhumane treatment of Russian soldiers captured by Ukraine,” Russia’s powerful criminal investigative body said in a statement.

Russia and Ukraine have already exchanged several prisoners of war with each other since the start of the Russian offensive against the neighboring country on February 24. The last exchange was on June 29 and involved 144 Ukrainian and Russian soldiers.
