Direct flight between China and Portugal resumes

The Xi’an-Lisbon flight JD429, operated by Capital Airlines, landed at Lisbon Airport, capital of Portugal, at 7:00 am on June 11 (local time). The return flight from Lisbon to Xi’an, capital of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, took off at 12:50 pm on the same day, and arrived in the Chinese city at 7:55 am on June 12 (Beijing time). This marks the official resumption of Capital Airlines’ direct Xi’an-Lisbon flight route.

To enrich the passenger experience, flight attendants held a celebration of the resumption of flight at an altitude of 10,000 meters. Flight attendants invited all passengers to participate in the interactive Q&A quiz and handed out commemorative gifts. Passengers also wrote their flight experience and best wishes on postcards.

The Xi’an-Lisbon route is currently the only nonstop direct flight between China and Portugal. The flights are operated by Airbus A330 wide-body passenger aircraft, which depart from Xi’an every Saturday (Beijing time) to Lisbon, and the return flights leave Lisbon every Saturday (local time) and return to Xi’ an. Passengers can also depart Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and other Chinese cities via Xi’an to reach Lisbon, before transferring to London, New York, Boston, Toronto, Washington and dozens of other international cities.

In July 2017, Capital Airlines opened a direct flight from Beijing, capital of China, to Lisbon for the first time. This route marks that China and Portugal finally ended the history of mandatory stopovers in other countries and entered a new era of direct flights. The flight was later changed to make a stop in Xi’an before flying to Lisbon. The route was temporarily suspended due to the epidemic in Xi’an earlier this year.
