Almost half of Brazil’s population lives at home without a sewer system

In 2019, there was a small increase in the number of people in houses connected to the collection network.

Almost half of the Brazilian population was not connected to sewage networks in 2019. The data are from the federal government’s SNIS (National Sanitation Information System).

Last year, 96.5 million people did not have sewage collected – that represented 45.9% of the Brazilian population.
