The Mozambican Defense Minister, Jaime Neto, assured yesterday that the Defense and Security Forces (SDS) are determined to “annihilate the heads” of the armed groups that carry out attacks in the province of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.

The Minister of Defense declared, during yesterday’s session in the Assembly of the Republic, that “the Defense Security Forces are determined to pursue and annihilate the heads of these groups”, adding that an operation is underway “against the terrorist bases”, without advancing details.

Jaime Neto stressed that for the success of the FDS in combating insurgents located in Cabo Delgado, it is crucial to support the population and former combatants of the national liberation struggle in locating and identifying the shelters where members of armed groups are hiding.

He also referred to the strong commitment to cutting the supply and external financing lines for armed groups, through international and regional cooperation based mainly on the exchange of information.
