Angola and North Korea strengthen cooperation

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea proposed to Angola the creation of national friendship groups, within the scope of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The willingness was demonstrated by the North Korean ambassador Pyong Chol, who was received in audience by the president of the Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Committee of the National Assembly, Josefina Pitra Diakité.

The beginning of friendship groups can boost the growth and strengthening of relationships. Josefina Diakité informed that North Korea started to take the first steps and presented the proof for the establishment of this friendship group.

According to Josefina, the relationship between North Korea and Angola has already been very positive, but the sanctions imposed on North Korea by the United Nations and the Covid-19 pandemic have considerably damaged cooperation.

Josefina Pitra Diakité also received the Mauritanian ambassador, Mohamed Ould Mekhalle, with whom he discussed issues related to interparliamentary cooperation. The diplomat raised some concerns related to the Mauritanian community in Angola.

The parliamentarian advised the ambassador to use the appropriate channels and to give due support and guidance to the community in Angola.
