Hippos attack crops in the Angolan province of Kwanza Sul

Peasants in the town of Caxongono, in the north-central part of the country, live days of despair. Their crops are being destroyed by hippos.

With these attacks, some families are now beginning to be threatened with nutrition problems in Kwanza Sul province.

The banks of the Kussoi River, a tributary of the Keve River, have been the site of animals that, according to local authorities, have already devastated several hectares of mining.

A peasant woman belonging to the agricultural cooperative Ngola Yetu told the portal Voa Português “that hippos often attack people’s cultures, leaving the Keve River for the Kussoi area”. “In August we put maize, it is already earning, and now they are taking advantage of all the cobs”, he said.
