The Chinese embassy in Brazil on Tuesday accused the United States of lying about 5G technology and creating problems that threaten international rules. The representatives of the Asian country stated that the Americans have a dirty cybersecurity past and remembered the spying episode of Brazilian authorities during the Dilma Rousseff (PT) government.
The statements raise the tone in the escalation of tensions between the two countries amid decisions to be taken by the Jair Bolsonaro government (without a party) about 5G technology. The argument of the American government, which sent a delegation to Brazil this week to discuss the matter, is that China’s Huawei passes on sensitive information to the government of the Asian country, which would threaten Brazil’s data security and cooperation with the United States.
