Africa exceeds 1.5 million cases of infection

The black continent has exceeded 1.5 million infected with covid-19 in the last 24 hours and recorded an additional 110 deaths, bringing the number of deaths to 36,614, according to the latest data on the pandemic in Africa

According to the African Union’s Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), in the last 24 hours there were 8,794 more cases in the 55 member states of the organization, bringing the number of infected people to 1,506,185 and 6,400 recovered , for a total of 1,243,259.

According to Africa CDC, Southern Africa continues to record the highest number of infections and deaths, with 29 more dead in the last 24 hours, rising to 18,209 fatalities, and the total number of infected is now 744,572. In South Africa alone, the continent’s most affected country, 679,716 cases and 16,938 deaths are reported.

Northern Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has 350,835 people infected and 11,324 dead and, in West Africa, the number of infections is 178,317, with 2,632 fatalities. The East African region now accounts for 174,385 cases and records 3,366 fatalities and in Central Africa there are 58,076 cases and 1,083 deaths.
