4.4 million heroin from Mozambique seized in South Africa

South African police in Richards Bay, on the coast of the country, seized 342.5 kilograms of heroin worth 87.5 million rand (4.4 million euros) from Mozambique.

“Agents in the Richards Bay organized crime investigation unit found heroin powder worth some 87.5 million rand and arrested three suspects,” said the statement from the South African Police (SAPS).

The statement said that police officers discovered 342.5 kg of the drug inside a metallic compartment “built for the purpose in a truck from Mozambique via Swaziland [now Essuatini] to the province of KwaZulu-Natal”.

South African police say the truck was intercepted in Hluhluwe and that agents had to use angle grinders to dismantle the false compartment.
