Leonel Alves says Macau should not copy Hong Kong

Former deputy and member of the executive board, Leonel Alves, believes that Macau should not follow Hong Kong’s example in terms of national security.

The statements were made yesterday, on the sidelines of the laying of the first stone of the Arts Center of China, Macau and Portuguese-speaking Countries, advanced TDM – Rádio Macau.

“The Hong Kong model may not be the best to import ipsis verbis into Macau. Macau has its characteristics and priorities (…) and its own development dynamics. These are the fundamental factors that will underlie a future analysis, not only of this national security law, but any others that may be of interest for the development of Macao’s stability ”, said Leonel Alves.

According to the same source, on the way the authorities acted on the night of 4 June when several arrests were made, the former deputy added that the security forces inspection commission had not received any complaints.
