Macau government corrects GDP fall to 58,2% in H1

The Macau authorities corrected on Wednesday the fall in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first half of the year to 58.2% compared to the same period in 2019.

The head of government, Ho Iat Seng, had said in a press conference today that the decrease was 67.8% in the first half.

This figure actually corresponds to the fall recorded in the second quarter, also in relation to the same period of the previous year, he explained to Lusa, a source from the media office in the territory.

“With this situation, we cannot be optimistic for the second half of the year”, Ho Iat Seng said in a press conference when leaving Macau for Beijing, refusing, therefore, to make any economic forecast for the end of the year.
