The United States recorded 1,262 deaths and 54,582 infected with the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, according to an independent count from Johns Hopkins University.
The latest figures bring the total number of deaths to 157,930 and that of confirmed cases to 4,818,328.
The balance made at 20:00 on Wednesday (01:00 today in Lisbon) by the news agency Efe also pointed out that although New York is no longer the state with the highest number of infections, it is still the most affected in terms of deaths in the United States, with 32,754, more than France or Spain.
