Is 2Q20 the darkest moment for Macau’s gaming industry?

For Macau’s casino and junket operators, 2Q20 could be one of the most difficult moments.

The influence of travel restrictions after Guangdong Province authorities imposed a 14-day mandatory quarantine on all arrivals, including local Guangdong residents, from 27 March 2020, reflects the massive decline in visitation to Macau throughout the 2Q20.

Revenue from all gaming operations in Macau fell to just MOP$3.32 billion (US$415.7 million) from MOP$73.56 billion (US$9.21 billion) a year earlier, according to quarterly figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

What is certain is that the quarterly financial reports of the gaming concessionaires to be revealed soon, will not be beautiful.
