Kim Jong-Un chairs expanded military meeting

Kim Jong-Un, the highest leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), chaired an expanded military meeting on Saturday to discuss the strategic mission of the main units to deal with the military situation in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula, the Central Agency reported. Korea News Agency (KCNA).

KCNA reported that the fifth expanded meeting of the Seventh Central Military Commission (CMC) of the Workers’ Party of Korea discussed issues of intensifying party education and guidance of army commanders and political officials.

After the extended meeting, there was a closed door meeting to “examine the strategic mission of the main units to deal with the military situation in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula and the potential military threat”, and to discuss the key issues to further strengthen the deterrence of war in the country.

An organizational issue was raised at the meeting on dismissing or appointing commanding officers in key army positions, KCNA said, without giving details of military reform.

The meeting was attended by the vice president of the CMC, Ri Pyong Chol, members of the CMC and commanders of the organs of the Armed Forces of all levels.
