Bottas overtakes Hamilton and takes pole at F1 Austrian GP

Bottas (Mercedes) will start from pole position, just ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton, at Sunday’s Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Finn had the fastest time in qualifying held this Saturday at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

This season, which had its start postponed in three months due to the pandemic, Hamilton aims to equal Schumacher’s record of seven titles. During the week, the Briton had set the best times of all free practice sessions, but ended up overtaken by his teammate.

Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Briton Lando Norris (McLaren) form the second row, after this Saturday’s qualifying session. This was particularly difficult for the Ferraris of Monegasque Charles Leclerc (7th) and German Sebastian Vettel (11th), who suffered from the disappointing performance of the legendary Italian team’s car.

In one of the shortest circuits of the season (4,318 km), the difference in the chronometer between Mercedes, the current driver and constructor champion, and the rest of the grid was, however, abysmal.
