Beijing says Washington supports protesters in Hong Kong, but treats its own like hoodlums

In the first official reaction to Donald Trump’s threat to retaliate against the new security law for Hong Kong, China attacked what it considers a contradiction by Americans in dealing with street demonstrations.

“Why does the United States glorify the so-called pro-independence forces in Hong Kong as heroics, but call protesters disappointed with racism in their country hooligans?” Asked Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
