Bitcoin rises nearly 3% and surpasses $81,000 for the 1st time since May

Bitcoin, the market’s most traded cryptocurrency, rose nearly 3 percent today to surpass 81,000 dollars, a level it had not crossed since May 15.

According to data compiled by financial news agency Bloomberg, as of 3:42 AM in Lisbon, the cryptocurrency was trading at 81,257.98 dollars (69,686.84 euros), marking a 2.95 percent increase compared to Monday.

Bitcoin has appreciated nearly 26 percent since August 19, when the United States Department of the Treasury announced it would accelerate and double the volume of its bond buyback programs to “support liquidity” in long-term debt, specifically for maturities ranging from 10 to 20 years and 20 to 30 years.

This announcement followed a surge in bond yields on Monday, when the 30-year Treasury yield reached 5.31 percent, its highest level since 2007, while the 10-year yield rose above 4.7 percent.

Prior to the U.S. Treasury’s announcement, the digital currency was trading at approximately 64,750 dollars (55,450 euros). Despite this significant rally, the digital asset maintains a year-to-date gain of 7.3 percent.
