The film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, broke opening weekend records in North America, pulling in $360 million at the box office and surpassing “Avengers: Endgame,” American media reported today.
According to data released today by Sony Pictures, which updates and exceeds Sunday’s estimates, the film earned $360 million (about €313 million) in box office revenue in the United States and Canada alone, surpassing the $357 million recorded by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.
Globally, however, the opening of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” still trails “Avengers: Endgame,” having grossed $932 million (€809 million) over the same period, compared to $1.2 billion (about €1 billion) for the 2019 film.
The figures were met with enthusiasm by Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman, who praised not only the producers, director, cast and crew, but also the “incredible marketing and distribution campaign.”

In Portugal, the film also debuted directly at number one, earning €1.4 million in revenue in just four days in theaters. According to the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” was seen by 193,207 viewers across 161 screens, with 1,391 screenings held between Thursday and Sunday. No other film has matched this audience size and box office revenue in an opening weekend in Portugal this year.
The second most-watched film during an opening weekend this period was “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” directed by David Frankel, which premiered on April 30 with 180,906 admissions and €794,000 in revenue, followed by “The Odyssey,” directed by Christopher Nolan, which premiered on July 17 with 98,636 viewers and €826,311 in box office revenue.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is the fourth film in the “Spider-Man” series starring British actor Tom Holland.
Globally, Marvel Studios now holds the record for the most profitable film openings of all time, with “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” (2026), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021).
