Carlos Vila Nova secured a second term as President of São Tomé and Príncipe today, winning reelection in the first round with 55.94% of the vote, according to preliminary results released by the National Electoral Commission.
Vila Nova defeated his main opponent, Nito d’Abreu, who received 41.42% of the popular vote. Candidates Eugénio Tiny and Miques João finished far behind with 1.97% and 1.58% respectively, running without formal party backings and conducting minimal campaign operations.
