Argentine President Javier Milei announced he will travel to Brazil at the end of July to attend the Liberal Party (PL) convention, where Senator Flávio Bolsonaro is expected to officially launch his presidential campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Argentine radio station NOW 97.9, Milei confirmed he will arrive in São Paulo on July 25 at the invitation of the senator, and added that he also plans to travel to Brasília to visit former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently under house arrest.

During the same broadcast, Milei reaffirmed his alignment with regional conservative movements, stating he intends to attend the upcoming inaugurations of two newly elected right-wing leaders in South America: Peru’s Keiko Fujimori and Colombia’s Abelardo de la Espriella.

The announcement follows a June 29 social media post by Milei featuring a photo alongside Flávio Bolsonaro during the senator’s visit to Buenos Aires, captioned with the phrase “a blue wave is coming to Brazil.” The term “blue wave” or “blue tide” is commonly used by Latin American conservatives to signify right-wing electoral victories, contrasting with the red traditionally associated with leftist parties.

Flávio Bolsonaro publicly thanked the Argentine leader for the support, praising Milei as an example for the world and expressing hope that the blue tide would liberate the Americas.

The presidential pre-candidate, who is preparing for Brazil’s general elections this October, had traveled to Buenos Aires to participate in the Latin America Chairmen’s Conference, an event organized by the Jewish community, where he utilized the platform to criticize current leftist Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The upcoming October election is shaping up to be a highly polarized contest, with Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro currently leading major polling indicators.

While both candidates command significant segments of the electorate, major polling centers presently project that the incumbent president, Lula, maintains a lead over the former president’s son in a potential second-round runoff.
