The President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, stated today that the fire near Los Gallardos, Almería, is controlled, and the return home of the thousand displaced people has been authorized. According to the regional official, the Andalusian agency against forest fires, Infoca, considered the fire stabilized, which caused the death of at least 12 people.

“Good news. After very difficult days, the Infoca Plan considers the #IFLosGallardos stabilized,” the Andalusian president wrote on his X social media account late this morning.

Moreno traveled today to the advanced command post installed in Turre (Almería) and specified that “the fire is contained and controlled,” so the operational alert has been reduced “to level 1 and the gradual return of the 1,000 people who were displaced is authorized.”

“The teams will continue working” for complete extinction, he said, thanking the personnel for their support.

“Thank you very much to all the teams for their work, dedication, and maximum coordination in all tasks,” said the president of the Andalusian Regional Government.

So far, the fire has affected 7,000 hectares within a perimeter of 40 kilometers, the official stated, considering today to be “the beginning of the end” of the fire.

In addition to the personnel fighting the fire, authorities deployed 100 elements to search the area, looking for any additional potential victims. The fire caused the death of twelve people, who have not yet been identified, and the Civil Guard has received eight reports of missing persons.
