A goal from Sporting CP player Maxi Araújo allowed Uruguay to rescue a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia on Monday, during the opening round of matches for Group H in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In the match held in Miami Gardens, the Saudis opened the scoring first in the 41st minute through Abdulelah Al-Amri, but the Sporting winger restored equality in the 80th minute.
The equalizer turned out to be his final action of the match, as he was immediately substituted off the pitch following the goal.

Following the results of the opening fixtures, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia occupy the top two spots in Group H with one point each. They sit in a dead heat alongside reigning European champions Spain and tournament debutants Cape Verde, who also canceled each other out after playing to a scoreless draw in Atlanta.
The tightly contested group remains completely open as all four nations head into the second round of group-stage matches with identical records.
