A man around 60 years old was detained this Tuesday after allegedly firing several shots inside an apartment building in Ajuda, Lisbon, and barricading himself inside his residence, a PSP source told Lusa. Police forces were deployed late Tuesday afternoon following multiple reports of gunshots being fired inside the building, an official source from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP (COMETLIS) stated.
Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers confirmed there were visible impact marks from the projectiles and that the suspect was inside his home, refusing to initiate any communication. Elements from the Special Operations Group (GOE) were deployed to the location, with police negotiators attempting to establish contact with the suspect, who eventually left the residence and was detained, a COMETLIS source indicated.

The same source informed Lusa that the man was in possession of a shotgun, the weapon that was allegedly used to fire the shots, which struck a neighbor’s door and a wall. The suspect was subsequently taken to São José Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, the police source added, highlighting that the man is believed to have suffered a psychological breakdown.
