Angola’s public electricity supply company said today it is working continuously to restore power in central Luanda and surrounding areas, and strongly condemned the “serious act of sabotage” that brought down high-voltage transmission towers.
Weekend rains in Angola, combined with acts of vandalism, caused power outages in several parts of the country.
According to the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT), a serious act of sabotage—following Saturday’s heavy rains—led to the collapse of five high-voltage towers, severely affecting electricity supply in the municipality of Ingombota, central Luanda, and nearby areas.
The RNT said in a statement that the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, visited the site on Sunday and expressed “deep condemnation” of the acts of sabotage.

More than 45,000 families were left without electricity in Luanda province, with several areas of the city still experiencing outages.
The Ministry of Energy and Water and sector companies “reaffirm their commitment to work non-stop until the full normalization of the electricity system,” and also call for maximum cooperation from citizens in reporting any suspicious activity near electrical infrastructure.
