Sporting de Braga and Real Betis played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final clash at the Estádio Municipal de Braga.

The Portuguese side made a strong start and took the lead early through Florian Grillitsch, who scored with a clever backheel finish from a corner delivered by Diego Rodrigues in the fifth minute.

Braga nearly extended their advantage soon after, but Ricardo Horta was unable to convert a promising opportunity, shooting straight at the goalkeeper. The hosts continued to threaten, though they were forced into an early substitution when Diego Rodrigues picked up an injury, with João Moutinho coming on.

Betis gradually grew into the game and came close to equalizing midway through the first half when Marc Bartra headed against the post. The visitors continued to press, with Cucho Hernández and Abde Ezzalzouli combining to create dangerous moments, only to be denied by Braga goalkeeper Hornicek.

After the break, Braga again started brightly, with Grillitsch testing Pau López from distance. However, it was Betis who found the equalizer in the 61st minute.

A foul by Gorby inside the box resulted in a penalty, which was confidently converted by Cucho Hernández to make it 1-1.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages. Braga coach Carlos Vicens made several changes, introducing fresh legs in attack and midfield, but clear chances remained scarce. Betis came closest to scoring again deep into stoppage time, when Antony fired a dangerous effort just wide.

The tie remains finely balanced ahead of the second leg, scheduled for April 16 in Seville, where a place in the semi-finals will be decided.
