US President Donald Trump has agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, suspending American bombing and military operations as both sides work toward a broader peace agreement, according to reports from CNN and Fox News.
The decision followed talks with Shehbaz Sharif, who urged Washington to delay further military action to allow space for ongoing negotiations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the development as a “double sided CEASEFIRE,” adding that the United States had “already met and exceeded all Military objectives.” He also said both sides were “very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East.”
According to Trump, Tehran presented a 10-point proposal that he called a “workable basis on which to negotiate.” He added that “almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed,” and that the two-week pause would allow time for the agreement to be “finalized and consummated.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Araghchi confirmed that ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz would be granted safe passage, a key issue amid recent tensions affecting global energy markets.

“If attacks against Iran are halted, our Powerful Armed Forces will cease their defensive operations,” Araghchi said in a statement, signaling conditional reciprocity from Tehran.
The ceasefire marks a significant de-escalation after days of heightened rhetoric and military threats, with both sides now indicating progress toward a potential long-term agreement.
