The Director-General of Guinean Communities Abroad, Braima Mané, reported today that six students from Guinea-Bissau have been “held” at Lisbon Airport since last Friday due to incomplete documentation.

Mané, affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a press conference in Bissau, stating that the Guinean embassy in Portugal is monitoring the situation. Three of the six students have since been allowed entry into Portugal.

Two additional students, stopped at the border since Saturday, are required to provide a Responsibility Term, Accommodation Declaration, and Proof of Enrollment at their respective universities.

Mané emphasized that having a visa does not automatically guarantee entry into Portugal, and travelers must present all required documents when requested. He also announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will establish a student assistance and guidance office to prevent such detentions in the future.

He clarified that these students are traveling personally and are not part of any official cooperation program between Guinea-Bissau and Portugal.
