The number of fatalities from heavy rains in Angola has risen to 45, with the Civil Protection and Fire Services updating the toll in Benguela and Luanda provinces to 39 dead, five missing, and 15 injured.
The summary report on the impact of the rains in Benguela and Luanda highlighted that 51,275 people were affected, 9,511 homes flooded, 607 homes destroyed, along with 23 schools, five health centers, 56 damaged electric poles, and 35 landslides.
In the capital, Luanda, 13 deaths, five missing persons, and one injury were reported. In Benguela, 26 people died, four went missing, and 15 were injured. Additional fatalities were reported in Cuanza Sul (four) and Malanje (two).

The Civil Protection and Fire Services indicated that the situation is currently stable, with multi-sectoral actions ongoing, including water suction operations in flooded residences and streets, food aid, potable water supply, sanitation, distribution of clothing and other essential items, and reinforced epidemiological monitoring.
President João Lourenço expressed deep concern over the damages caused by the intense rains, stressing that authorities are racing against time to locate and rescue missing persons. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and assured full government commitment to supporting affected communities.
