Angolan President João Lourenço has authorized an investment of over €262 million to strengthen water supply in Luanda, alongside the rehabilitation of a pediatric hospital in Uíge and the construction of a sports pavilion in Dundo.
Presidential decrees reviewed by Lusa show that on April 1, Lourenço approved four contracts for emergency supplies and the construction of water networks associated with System I — Candelabro in Luanda province, totaling approximately $276 million (€262 million).
The contracts cover emergency supplies and related services, construction of water supply networks, technical and financial coordination and management, and supervision services. Luanda faces major water challenges, with some areas still reliant on public fountains and water trucks, leaving thousands vulnerable to water scarcity and waterborne diseases.
