Portugal national football team will face Nigeria national football team on June 10 in their final preparation match ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Portuguese Football Federation announced.

“The national team has now confirmed its opponent for the final preparation match before the 2026 World Cup. Portugal will take on Nigeria on June 10, in what will be the last test before the competition begins,” the federation said in a statement.

On February 25, the FPF had already confirmed that Portugal will play Chile national football team on June 6 at the National Stadium in Oeiras. While the venue for the Nigeria match has not been officially confirmed, it is expected to take place in Leiria.

The Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria has suffered damage due to Storm Kristin, preventing União de Leiria from hosting matches there in Portugal’s second division.

This will be only the second meeting between Portugal and Nigeria, following Portugal’s 4-0 victory on November 17, 2022, at José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

Portugal recently played its first friendlies after qualifying, drawing 0-0 with Mexico and defeating the United States 2-0 in away matches.

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, United States, and Mexico, will begin on June 11. Portugal, placed in Group K, will make its debut on June 17 in Mexico City against the DR Congo national football team.

They will then face Uzbekistan national football team on June 23 in Houston and Colombia national football team on June 27 in Miami.
