The discussions, co-chaired by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, focus on highly contested issues. These include US tariffs, Chinese exports of rare earths and magnets, and the procurement of American agricultural products.
The first session took place on Sunday at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) headquarters. The initial meeting lasted for more than six hours.
According to TDM, a US Treasury spokesperson said no breakthroughs were achieved on the first day. Representatives from both delegations declined to provide further details or speak to the media following the session.
Before the meetings, China’s Ministry of Commerce noted that both sides would exchange views on economic and trade issues of mutual concern.
