A Barcelona fan bought a ticket to see his team play at Newcastle United in the Champions League, travelled more than 500 kilometres from London, but ended up at the wrong St James’ Park.
Exeter City, from southwest England, announced on Wednesday that the fan ended up watching one of their League One (English third division) matches against Lincoln City — on the same Tuesday that Newcastle and Barcelona drew 1-1 in the Champions League round of 16.
“One of our volunteers came to the office and told us a man had turned up to see Barcelona. From what we gathered, he was from London. I think he typed ‘St James’ Park’ into Google Maps and followed the directions to the wrong stadium,” explained Adam Spencer, head of fan relations.
