The number of deaths from the dengue outbreak has risen to 22 in East Timor, according to data from the Disease Prevention and Control Directorate of the Epidemiological Surveillance Department of the Timorese Ministry of Health.
The data show that from the beginning of January through Monday, the Ministry of Health recorded a total of 3,501 dengue cases and 22 deaths from the disease.
The highest number of fatalities was recorded in Dili, with 12 deaths, followed by Baucau, in eastern East Timor, with two deaths. The municipalities of Aileu, Ainaro, Bobonaro, Ermera, Lautém, Liquiçá, Manufahi and Oecussi each recorded one death.
According to the Ministry of Health, the highest number of cases was recorded in Dili, with 2,041, followed by Ermera (296), Liquiçá (205), Baucau (166), Viqueque (161), Covalima (119), Manatuto (109) and Aileu (107).
The Ministry of Health is carrying out fumigation activities as well as health education and promotion actions on dengue to prevent the outbreak from worsening across the national territory.
