Rebuilding Ukraine will cost 500 billion euros, says World Bank

An estimate for a decade, made in conjunction with the UN, EU, and Kiev, has increased by 12% in one year, focusing on attacks on the energy system.

Rebuilding Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure, which were devastated over the four years of Russia’s invasion that will be completed on this Tuesday (24th), will cost $588 billion (R$3 trillion and €500 billion) over ten years. This is assuming the war ended now, which is not on the visible horizon.

The account was released on Monday (23) by the World Bank, in a joint effort with the UN, the European Commission, and the Ukrainian government. It represents a 12% increase over last year’s estimate, driven by a 21% jump in damage to the country’s attacked energy system.
