Images released by official outlets show Kim Jong Un touring the area, greeting residents and consoling relatives of the fallen, accompanied by his daughter.
In official remarks, the North Korean leader stated that the construction was completed “one day ahead of schedule” to provide comfort and dignified living conditions for the families, emphasizing the state’s responsibility toward those who “gave their lives for the country.”
The inauguration comes amid growing international scrutiny over Pyongyang’s military cooperation with Moscow. South Korean and Western intelligence agencies estimate that thousands of North Korean soldiers may have been killed or wounded in Ukraine, although the regime has not released official figures.
International analysts interpret the initiative as both material compensation and a domestic propaganda effort aimed at reinforcing internal unity and legitimizing North Korea’s involvement in the conflict. The ceremony also coincides with a period of heightened political activity ahead of key party meetings.
