According to the Official Gazette published on Wednesday, Leong Wai Man will continue as head of the Cultural Affairs Bureau from February 1, following approval by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, O Lam. The one-year extension is intended to ensure leadership continuity ahead of the planned consolidation of the three bodies in 2026.
The proposed merger was first announced in the government’s annual policy address and forms part of a wider restructuring of Macau’s social, cultural and sports administration.
Separately, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai had earlier appointed Leong to concurrently serve as chair of the Cultural Development Fund’s Administrative Committee. That additional role took effect on January 1 and will run for six months.
In a related decision issued on the same day, O Lam also approved a one-year extension for Kong Chi Meng, director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, with his renewed term likewise beginning on February 1.
