Macau’s auto market faces sluggish year, trader warns

Car sales in Macau are expected to stay lacklustre this year amidst broader economic challenges and shifts in spending patterns, according to Daniel Cheng Wingyiu, president of the Macau Motor Traders Association.

In a recent interview with Macao Daily News, Cheng said that the city’s auto market was long past its heyday between 2004 and 2014, which he described as the ‘golden decade’.

He said that sales were particularly robust between 2010 and 2014, adding that ‘everyone had their cars replaced every three or four years when the economy was good in the past’.
