Award Ceremony for QTSAS 2025 for catering businesses and travel agencies

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme (QTSAS) 2025 award ceremony on 4 December, recognising businesses that demonstrated high standards in service and operations.

This year, 327 catering businesses and 57 travel agencies earned the Quality Tourism Services Merchant Award after a streamlined application process and the removal of sector quotas, leading to increased participation.

A separate ceremony on 11 December will honour 43 Excellent Certified Shops in the retail sector.

Around 460 participants attended the ceremony, including senior representatives from government departments, industry associations, academic institutions, and testing bodies.

Key attendees included Acting Director of MGTO Jennifer Si Tou, Consumer Council President Leong Pek San, UTM Rector Fanny Vong, and leaders of major industry associations, underscoring strong cross-sector support for the continued enhancement of tourism services.

Since its launch in 2014, QTSAS has expanded to include catering, travel agencies, and retail businesses.

In recent years, the Scheme has incorporated Special Theme Awards—covering areas such as community care, operational innovation, sustainable dining, local features, and the newest category, the Integrity Business Award.

The aim is to encourage innovation and responsible practices across the tourism and hospitality sectors.

MGTO emphasised that QTSAS forms part of a broader strategy to elevate service culture in Macao.

Initiatives such as the Macao Courtesy Campaign, annual assessments, and sector-specific training programmes help frontline staff develop better hospitality skills and strengthen Macao’s positioning as a world-class tourism and leisure destination.

These efforts align with the SAR government’s “1+4” economic diversification strategy.

Regulatory upgrades also form a key pillar of service enhancement.

The Law on the Operation of Travel Agencies and Tour Guide Profession, set to take effect on 1 February 2026, is being promoted extensively by MGTO to ensure operators understand compliance requirements and deliver high-quality services under the new framework.

Further information on QTSAS-accredited businesses is available on the Macao Government Tourism Office website.
