Around 200 seniors and youth volunteers gather for a series of fun-filled intergenerational activities Saturday at the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) Social Services Building. Themed on “Love & Inclusivity for All Ages,” the event was sponsored by Sands China and co-organised by the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service Centre and the Ngai Chun Centre, both under UGAMM, promoting community values of inclusion and reciprocity across generations.
The “Love & Inclusivity for All Ages” community event brought together around 200 seniors and youth volunteers at the UGAMM Social Services Building on Nov 29.
Sponsored by Sands China, and co-organised by the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service Centre and the Ngai Chun Centre under UGAMM, the programme was intended to foster intergenerational relations through a series of fun-filled community activities.
During the event, Sands China donated MOP 240,000 to the Peng On Tung Charity Foundation to help subsidise disadvantaged seniors using the Tele-Assistance service and to support additional care programmes such as home repair services and free haircuts for elderly.
For more than 20 years, Sands China has contributed to local social welfare by supporting disadvantaged groups and strengthening community networks. The ceremonial donation cheque was presented by Annie Lam, Director of Community Affairs for the company, to UGAMM representative.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “Caring and mutual support are the cornerstone of a strong community. Sands China has made donations to the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau for 16th consecutive years, subsidising people with financial difficulties to use the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service and developing value-added services for Peng On Tung, benefiting more than 27,500 seniors since 2010. This year, we are pleased to continue this long-standing tradition of supporting the elderly, while also bringing youth volunteers together to send love to seniors. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the trainees of UGAMM’s Peng On Tung Maintenance Programme and the mentors, trainees, and volunteers of the Elderly Haircut Initiative for their dedication and service, which has helped nurture a supportive society. Sands China will continue to work hand in hand with the community to build a harmonious, inclusive environment for all generations.”
UGAMM president Ng Siu Lai said: “We are grateful to Sands China for its long-term support and generous donations, which have enabled us to continue caring for seniors. Special thanks to the Sands Care Ambassadors, whose dedication and service make the community a better place. Together, we look forward to providing more comprehensive services to seniors and improving their quality of life in the future.”
The event also showcased UGAMM’s major elderly support programmes. The Peng On Tung Maintenance Programme trains volunteers in repair skills to provide home maintenance services to seniors, while the Elderly Haircut Initiative has trained 254 students to offer free monthly haircut services through the “Scissor Friends” outreach activity.
Saturday’s programme featured eight Intergenerational Skill Exchange booths jointly operated by seniors and youth, featuring traditional crafts, digital literacy sessions, anti-fraud awareness, health exercises, and electrical safety demonstrations.
Free haircuts were offered on-site, reinforcing the event’s focus on intergenerational harmony.
Established in 2009, the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service Centre continues to expand welfare services through its hotline and outreach efforts.
Sands China’s support of Peng On Tung is part of the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme.
