Pezeshkian argued that the SCO should “take operational, specific and clear steps to create a more peaceful world and a system better prepared for economic cooperation”, according to the state-run Iranian agency IRNA.

The Iranian head of government proposed the creation of a committee of foreign ministers to develop “practical crisis management proposals” and to respond “immediately” to threats against the sovereignty of a member state.

“This mechanism must become an operational arm of the organization,” he stressed.

Pezeshkian also suggested establishing “special SCO accounts and settlement systems” to strengthen financial cooperation among members and reduce dependence on the U.S. dollar.

“We are convinced that implementing this initiative will not only increase members’ economic resilience but will also make the SCO a successful model of a multipolar financial order, fair and resistant to external pressure,” he said.

The Iranian leader, who arrived in China last Sunday, also supported the creation of specialized centers to address security threats, a center against drug trafficking, and rapid response mechanisms.

Pezeshkian further reiterated Iran’s readiness to leverage its geopolitical position as a bridge for regional cooperation.

Alongside Xi Jinping, the summit is also being attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other leaders, with the expectation that they will define a development strategy for the bloc amid growing tensions with the United States.

According to Chinese diplomacy, several agreements on security, economy, and culture are expected to be signed at what Beijing describes as the “most significant summit” since the SCO was founded.
