According to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), cross-border vehicular traffic rose by 23.2 percent year-on-year to 5.3 million trips. Trips by light passenger cars increased by 25.0 percent year-on-year to 5 million. Among these, trips made by Macau single-plate vehicles to and from Hengqin recorded a significant 45.8 percent rise, reaching 1.04 million. Journeys under the “Northbound Travel for Macau Vehicles” policy climbed by 14.7 percent to 813,000.
In contrast, passenger ferry trips (39,408) and commercial flights arriving and departing from Macau International Airport (26,884) dropped by 1.4 percent and 3.2 percent year-on-year, respectively, during the same period.
In June alone, cross-border vehicular traffic reached 932,895 trips, up 23.8 percent year-on-year. However, passenger ferry trips (6,194) and commercial flights (4,267) declined by 4.9 percent and 8.8 percent, respectively.
Decline in cargo volume
Macau’s cross-boundary cargo volume saw an overall decline in the first half of 2025. The gross weight of containerized cargo by land fell by 7.2 percent year-on-year to 32,134 tonnes, while port containerized cargo decreased by 7.0 percent to 89,499 tonnes. Air cargo volumes also declined by 4.5 percent to 46,813 tonnes.
Of the total air cargo, outward cargo (41,910 tonnes) dropped by 6.3 percent, whereas inward cargo (2,477 tonnes) and transit cargo (2,426 tonnes) increased by 5.0 percent and 25.9 percent, respectively.
In June, the gross weight of land containerized cargo (6,885 tonnes) and port containerized cargo (16,957 tonnes) rose by 12.7 percent and 10.3 percent year-on-year, respectively. However, air cargo fell by 6.8 percent to 8,984 tonnes.

Vehicle registrations and traffic accidents
New motor vehicle registrations declined by 0.7 percent year-on-year to 5,901 in the first half of the year. Of these, 2,218 were electric vehicles, with their share rising by 7.1 percentage points to 37.6 percent.
In June, new registrations rose by 21.1 percent year-on-year to 1,046 units, including 477 electric vehicles, which accounted for 45.6 percent.
Traffic accidents declined by 4.4 percent year-on-year to 7,331 in the first half, resulting in 2,620 injuries. In June, the number of accidents slightly increased by 0.4 percent to 1,262, leading to 461 injuries.
Telecom services expanding
As of the end of June, the number of licensed motor vehicles in Macau reached 253,089, up 1.0 percent year-on-year, according to DSEC. Mobile phone subscribers totaled 1.48 million, representing a 4.5 percent increase, while internet subscribers rose by 4.9 percent to 779,317.
