The CAEAL condemned these actions and reserved the right to pursue legal action. This statement stemmed from public accusations made by Alberto Wong, a candidate from the “Macau Create People’s Livelihood Force” group.
Alberto Wong recently claimed via a message sent to various media outlets that the current Macau election system is “dark” and “unfair.” He revealed that in the week leading up to July 15th, various individuals privately contacted his team, including National People’s Congress delegates, CAEAL members, mainland national security personnel, and other authorities. They allegedly demanded that his team “voluntarily withdraw” or face serious consequences, which would ultimately lead to “unpleasant results.” Alberto Wong expressed his helplessness and stated, “God bless Macau.”
The 8th Legislative Assembly Election of the Macau Special Administrative Region, originally scheduled for September 14th this year, has garnered significant attention recently due to the disqualification (DQ) of 12 candidates from two groups by the CAEAL. On July 15th, the CAEAL announced that all members of “Synergy of Power,” led by directly elected lawmaker Ron Lam U Tou, and “Macau Create People’s Livelihood Force,” a first-time participating group led by Alberto Wong, were disqualified after being deemed as “not upholding the Basic Law and not pledging allegiance to the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.”
CAEAL President Seng Ioi Man stated that the committee received a review opinion from the Committee for Safeguarding National Security, which clearly indicated that the six candidates from “Macau Create People’s Livelihood Force” and the six candidates from “Synergy of Power” were all assessed as not upholding the Basic Law and not pledging allegiance to the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
Based on the National Security Committee’s review opinion, the CAEAL formally made the decision of “not meeting candidate qualifications” in accordance with the relevant provisions of the “Legislative Assembly Election Law,” thus disqualifying all members of these two candidate lists.
